Ovariectomy

A minimally invasive surgery

Ovariectomy spaying has many advantages:

  • Smaller wounds
  • Reduced pain
  • Less risk of wound breakdown
  • A faster recovery time
  • Reduced stress
  • Better visualisation
  • Less internal trauma as only the ovaries are removed

Simon K White is highly experience in keyhole surgery, and has been offeringthe 'ovariectomy as an alternative bitch spay service in Somerset for many years.

When should I have my bitch spayed?

The best time is either before they have had a season (about 6 months old) or 3 to 6 months after a season has finished. Your dog will need to have an appointment with one of our vets to assess the suitability of your pet (size, age, weight etc). Most practices charge more for the keyhole spay due to the extra cost of equipment and expertise needed, but here at White Lodge, both the traditional and ovariectomy are the same cost.

Why should I have my bitch spayed?

Spaying not only reduces the risk of overpopulation or any unexpected litters, it also reduces risk of certain illnesses, such as pyometra (a common, life-threatening infection of the uterus) or mammary gland cancer.
